have any tips for somebody looking to try it out for the first time? any tips or advice. in every video i fail to find the cone placement obvious and i dont think i could memorize a minute long course by walking it. Are the instructors helpful? will i fuck it up if i am a novice driver for instance i didnt know you werent supposed to brake and turn at the same time. idk just nervous need convincing because i do love flogging the hell out of my car but fear its too fast for me to try out at first

You don't know until you try. You're first priority should be safety but you'll be fine as long as you are attentive. Remember everyone has to start somewhere so I'd recommend to do your best to listen to experienced members and try to ride with some if you can. Also, see if you can get someone to ride along with you.

Fowl!
Two rules I live my life by: 1) You can't track a Buick and 2) There is no crying in baseball!

Is it in an airfield?
Becuase if so, I want my town to have a deserted airfield as well.

I didn't think convertibles were allowed! He is the true winner!

Yes it is. Someone owns the land but allow the SCCA to run autocrosses there.

Memorizing it isn't that big of a deal, and even with experience I can't follow along with other people's video. There are simple pointer cones and sometimes there are chalk marks that will guide you through the course. Really all you need to know in that regard is what different placements of cones mean, but even then if you mess up it's not like a track where you end up in a wall, so there isn't much to worry about.

LeSabre FTW! I bet he or she was totally comfortable driving in that cushy seat, and the light as a feather power steering helped with the two finger wheel spinning!

I was the handsome windswept driver of the Buick, and yes. It was quite comfy. The power steering... well... it was almost out of fluid and ended up making some not-happy noises. I actually still haven't replenished the fluid since the only way to fill it is to somehow snake a hose around to teh back of the engine to fill it up, which is an enormous pain.
